Practical information

How to get there

The Rijksmuseum stands on Museumplein, in the museum quarter south of the city centre. Trams from Amsterdam Central Station stop near the museum; the walk from Leidseplein takes about ten minutes. The main entrance is in the passage that runs through the building.

How long to plan

Allow at least two to three hours for the highlights of the Gallery of Honour and the surrounding galleries; a full visit of all floors easily fills half a day. You can stay as long as you like after your starting time.

What is included with our tickets

Our ticket is the regular entrance ticket with a date and a starting time slot. Adults pay the regular admission; visitors aged 18 and under enter free of charge (source: rijksmuseum.nl, checked 28 September 2026). Special exhibitions may require a separate ticket.

Tips

Book the earliest time slot or a late-afternoon slot for the quietest galleries. Large bags go into the free lockers. The Rijksmuseum Gardens around the building are open to everyone, ticket or not.
